Pretty women can be predators!! Now you don’t the have to suffer through 300 pages of little boys getting molested you’re welcome. IMO If this was supposed to have any kind of commentary on rape culture it 100% needed less smut??? Of Celeste assaulting the boys and more focus on how she victimized them and the long-term effects of what she did Or at the Very Least a follow-up where they realize they were abused and failed by the system

i won't be rating this book because i honestly don't know how to feel about this.

is it a well-written book? yes. does it make me want to gag at all times? also yes.

i understand that the point of the book is a critique on how men who are predators get much severe punishments when women offenders cause just as much harm, but i don't feel like i needed to read so much smut to achieve that result. idk, this was on my bucket list for a long time so i'm happy i read it but i don't know if i would recommend this to anyone.

I don’t like how much I enjoyed reading this book. Enjoyed is maybe the wrong word, it makes you feel disgusting when you read it… Definitely, don’t put yourself in a situation where people are going to ask what you’re reading lol.

But the writing was fantastic, and it was kind of amazing to be put in that mindset for 300 pages. At times I even found myself feeling bad for Celeste.

Although I had to take breaks while reading it when it got really graphic… I can’t help but  see so many positives. But I cannot in good faith give this book 5 stars, because I am a little concerned that a writer could write this, and not share some of the thoughts that were written

“Alexa, play the Law and Order: SVU theme song”

But seriously, the look of disgust and shock permanently on my face throughout reading this probably aged me significantly.

Nutting did a great job keeping me turning the pages, and drew me into the villain’s mind expertly. Celeste’s complete lack of empathy and total predatory ways were shocking.

After finishing, it becomes clear that maybe the shock is necessary in a female perpetrator story as opposed to books like My Dark Vanessa, to make the point. It makes you think  about how society/the justice system/media treat male victims and female assailants in constrast to their opposing-gendered counterparts.

I thought this was well done, and I could say so much more but it’s short, so go read it - if you can stomach it.
