Magic, witches, time travel, friendship and love. These are the keywords to this book. I really enjoyed reading it. It's an easy read, the characters are nice and the story is nice. I think, the book was named so wrong though.

I really enjoyed this read.

I saved it up until now so that I could enjoy it at the edge of the spooky season ending as a fun romp out of October and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this world.

The characters felt real. not sure I liked their names much but thats personal preference.

A really cool aspect was the houses ability to change depending on the season/what those who lived there needed. It reminded me a bit of Encanto with more witches and romance, which was a really fun thing to explore and experience.

The romance part of the book, was as expected, cute, could be a bit more yearning and maybe I'd have prefer to see it first person as opposed to third so I'm docking one star for that and the wanting more focus on the romance personally.

I'd absolutely love to see this book get made into a movie? it's just so feel-good and we need more Halloween movies!

Overall, really enjoyed it. The writing was witty and the whole story spilled from the pages into my mind so vividly.

Thank you to NetGalley, and One More Chapter / Harper Collins UK for this ARC, you made my little spooky heart soar.

Fun story, but felt at times like it was trying to do a few too many things in a short space of time. Will probably be too spicy for those who like closed door but tame to those who like their reads spicy. Felt lighthearted and cosy most of the time but then on a few occasions things got heavier (and not in the way those issues can be incorporated into a cosy setting).

Hmmm... 3.5 ⭐ Like I'm kinda here for this book and kinda eh. This is just a bit chaotic for me. I liked the writing style and vibes, it was cosy, funny and enjoyable. Just it felt like the plot just had a lot going on especially the last 1/3 and context was lacking in some bits leaving me a bit confused.

Look, I thought I knew Essex—big hair, fake tan, questionable club choices—but Hex Appeal gave me an Essex I actually want to visit. The setting was pure magic (literally), and the way the houses and cottages were described? I swear I could hear the floorboards creak and feel the draft of an old, witchy home.

Josh and Essie’s relationship was everything—banter, chemistry, and just the right amount of emotional damage. But that twist right before the end? RUDE. Nearly shattered my poor, unsuspecting heart.

Witches, time travel, and a sprinkle of romance? This was exactly the cosy, magical escape I needed after drowning myself in murder mysteries. Highly recommend if you need a break from all the bloodshed but still crave a bit of drama.
