Concluding the story from "Mind Games," this book was written the same way, alternating between the two sister's viewpoints and using lots of flashbacks (that got a little confusing at times). I love the fierce loyalty between the two sisters and even though one sister is quite "broken," I love how the other sister steps in. Lots of twists and turns and a fun ride!

It's no secret that I'm a huge Kiersten White fan. She has such a unique fun way of writing and her characters are always so strong and sassy that I can't help but love every book she writes. Obviously after loving Mind Games I had high expectations for Perfect Lies and it did not disappoint!

Perfect Lies kept up with the fast pace of the first book and jumped right in almost immediately after Mind Games ended with two separate timelines. In one timeline, the before, Fia and Annie are separated and each dealing with the aftermath of their wild escape from the Keane Foundation at the end of Mind Games. The other timeline takes place several weeks after their escape. Jumping between these two timelines allows for the reader to know what Fia is up to while in the next chapter Annie is a week in the past wondering what the heck is going on. If this sounds confusing, it was at times, but I thought it added an extra benefit to the story with the timelines getting closer and closer together I couldn't help but feel like I was rushing towards a huge event without any way of stopping or slowing down.

In addition to the alternating timelines, the book also continues alternating between the two sister's point of views. This offers a unique insight into each girl's perspective on the events as they unfold. Annie and Fia both have a very different way of telling the story and having the book alternate points of view helps readers to get a more complete idea of what is going on. This also helped to counteract any confusion from the separate timelines.

Above everything else, this duo is about Annie and Fia and their relationship as sisters. They aren't perfect and they have both hurt each other. In Perfect Lies, Fia is desperately trying to save her sister and put an end to their problems once and for all while Annie is trying to keep Fia from getting in too deep with the Keane Foundation and getting herself killed. Seeing their relationship throughout this novel while they were separated was even more beautiful because how deeply they care for each other was on display. Annie and Fia would, and do, sacrifice anything and everything for each other and their relationship is the best part of the book. It's such a nice change to have a book focused on two sisters instead of a romance.

Kiersten White also handled her characters' emotional states beautifully. After everything she has had to do Fia is mentally broken up and it shows in the writing when the book is in her point of view. Her thoughts are choppy and don't always string together perfectly and I loved the way Kiersten White wrote her side of the story. Annie also developed well as a character. She was frustrated with her inability to do things herself as a result of her blindness and started demanding that people help her learn how to fend for herself. By the end of the novel she was a lot stronger and had grown up to meet the challenges that were thrown at her and her sister.

While readers will learn more about some minor characters in Mind Games, Perfect Lies was mainly centered on the relationship between two sisters and the unbreakable bond that they share. I loved reading about the two of them and highly recommend picking up a copy of Mind Games and Perfect Lies if you haven't already!

Note: Some spoilers for Mind Games will happen as it’s impossible for me to talk about the sequel without doing some spoiling. Also, why would you read the review of the sequel before reading the first book? That’s weird.

Back when I picked up Mind Games by Kiersten White, I remembered being totally apprehensive because of the negative reviews, but then I ended up enjoying the book, regardless. When it came to Perfect Lies I was actually kind of excited because I felt invested in Fia and Annie, the sisters with special powers being used by a totally shady company. Y’all, I kind of burned through Perfect Lies and am mostly pleased with what I read. There might be a few things I did not love but that does not detract from my overall ultimate enjoyment of White’s latest sequel.

I'm not sure what happened with this book. Maybe it was me? Maybe it was actually the book? I don't know, but I couldn't muster as much enthusiasm for it as I did with Mind Games. I couldn't stand either Fia or Annie in this book.

Let's start with Fia. In Mind Games I was able to deal with her type of crazy because I could connect to her somehow. White made it possible to understand where Fia was coming from,so I was able to go along with it. In Perfect Lies I couldn't be bothered anymore with Fia's constant whining and self pity and her damned dependency of James, a character I never truly liked. If it wasn't her being dependent on Annie then it was James and at least with Annie I could deal with it, because it was her sister, but James -gags-.

If Annie hadn't gone with any character growth like Fia, Perfect Lies would have been a 1 star. At the beginning, Annie was just as dependent of Fia as Fia was of her, and not only that but Annie came across as pathetic. Oh and stupid.
SpoilerShe is lying 'dead' on the floor with the phone Fia gave her and what does she do? She lets some random dude she doesn't know carry her to 'safety' and then hands him the phone!! WHYYY!! You don't know him!!
But as I said Annie did grow. She stops depending on everyone and trusting everything they say. She starts questioning (a bit late but she does) and most importantly she starts fighting back, and that right there is what saved this book for me.

My other issue with Perfect Lies was the switching of PoV's. Not because I couldn't tell who was who, that was fairly obvious what with Fia's craziness, but the constant changing on the timeline. I knew when it was supposed to be, but I couldn't actually keep up with it. I got confused a few times on when everything was happening and why and how the two timelines connected to the point where I just gave up and went along with it and never looked back. I don't know if I was the stupid one who couldn't make sense of it or if maybe there were some errors on the ARC I read, but yeah, it was annoying.

The ending is another thing I'm not entirely sure what to make of. I liked Annie's involvement, and I liked what she did. I didn't like how quickly it was resolved and I sure as hell didn't like James still being around, but I guess I can't ask for too much? But Fia's ending was fitting, she needed that.

I guess this is a must if you want to find out what happens to the sisters, but I barely made it the whole way through. The pity parties and the pathetic dependency issues finally got to me.

ARC Review --- This sequel to Mind Games is just as thrilling a read with as many twists and turns that leave you gaping at the end game because it isn't what you expected. It shows that you can choose what path you take. The perspective switches between Fia and Annie as they're now separated. Fia still is trying to keep Annie safe after she "killed" her, but she's spiraling out of control; her actions are controlled and she is losing her ability to choose. While Annie is growing stronger being away from her sister and by the end she knows Fia needs her more than ever to make the choice so Fia doesn't have to kill anyone on command anymore. Like the first book, this is a super quick read that you won't be able to put down until you're finished.

I'd rate it 4.5 stars because I gave Mind Games 4 stars and I enjoyed this one more. Definitely check it out, especially if you like reading books that get into your head and won't let go of your mind.

FANTASTIC!! There are some books that I definitely love one book over the other but this series was too hard to not love one book as much as the other. Both Perfect Lies and Mind Games have an amazing writing style and I knew that I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight until I finished Perfect Lies. Definitely recommend this duology!
