Cliffhangers will be the end of me.
This was incredible. I’m a sucker for a mythological book involving gods and battle so this was right up my alley. Iris was also such a great character to read about, I thought she was a brilliant fmc. How she handled everything and her determination were scrumptious, we love an fmc that stands on business. Roman annoyed the absolute hell out of me for the better part of the book, but he definitely redeemed himself by the end.
One of the most enjoyable things about this book were the letters and the typewriters legend. I thought it was such a cool element to incorporate and really enjoyed how it shaped the story and gave both of them an outlet.
Did not expect to love as much as I did, I read it in a day and was so pleasantly surprised!

This novel made the buzz and many reviewers' enthusiasm made me want to read this.
It was a very enjoyable read, with an unusual background for a YA book : war and its traumas. Not just any war, there were gods involved (though you hardly see them), but there was a first world war feel. It also dealt with grief and mourning, a topic I seem to be reading about a lot these days even if I was not particularly looking for it.
I didn't exactly fall head over heels for the characters, however they were lovely and the novel was well written. There was no YA angst or guilt or anything (phew !). The only thing that annoyed me some was that Kitt was constantly refered as "boy". He's an adult, young - I know, but not a boy any more, especially someone who can becomes a war correspondent.
There wasn't a heavy worldbuilding, I appreciated that. Usually, in an introductory novel, the worldbuilding can be too much ; here it was just enough to catch my interest and I loved the idea of magic seeping through the ground because of the buried gods, it was poetic and original.
It was very good and I'll read the next soon - probably next month.

It wasn't interesting to me at the time. I'll probably start it over again sometime soon though!
