I really liked the book, though that might be the shounenhead in me speaking, it's really fun and Will Wight has always been a master at writing action

Too much
Like watching an action film that is all explosions, then a gun fight, then more explosions, then a chase then another fight. Great if you like hand-wavey space magic, not so good if you like a story.

I really wanted to love this one as much as I love Cradle, but it was a let down. Without a doubt there’s tons of imagination and potential - but it’s told in a disjointed stream of consciousness that made even the coolest parts feel half-baked.
There’s no suspense or character development. Varic is the most powerful being in the universe from the first scene - nothing poses a real threat and there’s no room for further growth. He even keeps wondering aloud, ‘what am I supposed to do now?’

Fun but no Cradle. It's a bit too epic to be a starting point, and all the characters are perfect. I don't think I'll continue
Will is back with the first book he’s released since I first got into his Unsouled series and it didn’t disappoint! If you’re looking for fun, lightning-fast paced action this is for you. I was hesitant about the sci-fi / fantasy genre, but somehow the whole ‘intergalactic space wizard’ thing was done effortlessly. Much more action than character driven, but lots of fun.
Guardians of the Galaxy meets Harry Potter
Just an all around fun book! A rag tag team with a Wizard captain. What could go wrong. Can’t wait for the new Will Wight series to continue!

It feels like reading Cradle Abidan parts with magic. Nonstop action until the end with some Mass Effect 2 style squad recruitment moments, which fits my bills EXACTLY. Buuut this could be a major flaw for others as very little time is alotted for character development, and the magic system doesnt seem to follow any hard rules, which could be a dealbreaker for many. Hope these issues are fixed in the upcoming books.
