My favorite stories from this issue's collection of short stories include:

--Doug Allyn's "Tombstone": Another notch in the belt for Allyn who perennially shows up on EQMM's readers poll for best story. Here we are treated to some behind-the-scenes intrigue on a movie shoot featuring a beloved western movie actor in the John Wayne mold. The story title does indeed refer to the Kurt Russell/Val Kilmer movie which has been bumped up on my movie wish list thanks to Allyn.

--T.J. MacGregor's "A Gambler's Superstition": A revenge melodrama perfectly suited for the shorter format.

--R.T. Raichev's "Murder at the Mongoose": Though the plot is a little weak in this one, I always enjoy Raichev's series featuring librarian Antonia Darcy and Major Hugh Payne where constant allusions are made to the Golden Age of country house mysteries which appeals to the mystery nerd in me.
