As cute as I expected, and even smarter than I expected.
4.5!
Tw. Death of a best friend, cancer, grief discussion.
This book so good.
Full POC cast.
The diversity was *IMMACULATE *
Bi, pan, nonbinary, deaf.
The grief aspect of this was so sensitively done and authentic. The little kiss of magical realism was such a fun touch. I enjoyed this whole book.

This one is was a cute first read for the year/end of last year. Very inclusive with its range of characters and something different.
That being said, I don’t know how much I really enjoyed the whole matchmaking app installed on your phone that is spiritually connected to your dead friend thing. It’s just not in the realm of believability for me. I know it’s fiction but I just don’t vibe with it.
I do like the concept of you potentially having met your soulmate and being able to reconnect with people from the past. It’s fun and there’s possibility for chaos.
I wish there was more about Corr exploring other things Joelle left her and dealing with grief because that interested me.
Also kind of thought the reveal about Cory would have been a bigger deal than it was but we were getting towards the end of the book so it had to go somewhere.
Still, as an Amazon Prime First Read I took a chance on, I’m not mad about it.

I picked this book as my first read as a nice beach read. What was a very cute story, also had a lot packed into it. This was my first book dealing with multiple sexualities and they pronouns and I was really thrilled with how everything was presented. I feel more informed and also happy with how casually everything was addressed versus reading like a textbook or needing a seven page explanation. I love that it’s set for a possible sequel!
GLT 2021 Reading Challenge: #37 - A book by a BIPOC author. #49 - A debut novel.
Amazon First Reads June pick:
I suspected I would enjoy this book but I didn't dare hope I would love it.. I can happily report I was wrong! It's engaging, funny, touching, sexy and I was *thrilled* to see different sexualities and gender expression throughout as just background, not particularly part of the plot. May we strive to show inclusivity like this in more of our literature. Massive thumbs up for deaf character and the ever-present sign language as well - I want to learn myself one day and the more I read books that feature signing the stronger that aim becomes.
Love the characters and literally nobody p'd me off (I'm tired of the enemy bitch character trope and this author does not stoop to that, thank goodness), and I just didn't want to put it down. Please can I read more of their lives?? They don't even have to be doing anything in particular, I just want to keep hanging out with them all!
It may seem a bit odd to say this about a book that does have a strong theme of grief, but it has definite re-readability for me when I want a mood pick-me-up. I would definitely recommend. Thank you Camille Baker! I'm looking forward seeing what comes next

This was a light hearted rom-com. I did struggle with the main character being super bratty at times, and that's why I'm not typically a fan of these types of stories but it was kind of cute.
Interesting and fun premise with a sweet execution but it didn't quite come together. It felt like a book that had all the pieces but never fleshed them out into something that really works. Nothing is delved into in enough detail to be satisfying which is a shame because it's so close. Nonetheless, I had fun reading it. I did like all of the characters and the premise got me thinking enough for it to stay interesting.
