Honestly this deserves 4.5 stars, this was cute!

This was a cute romance but nothing really to write home about. I liked all of the characters and there was definitely character growth but it was pretty predictable.

Fun easy romance

An easy read, but a very enjoyable one that left me wanting to just keep reading. Likeable characters and good humour.

This is one my favorite reads of the year! I love how relatable the characters and scenarios were. The inclusivity was a breath of fresh air as well. Corinne had me wanting to smack some sense into her, but you can’t help but to love and resonate with her. Definitely gives you that happy feeling that you get when you watch Insecure!

I'm gonna give this a proper review when I've got the chance to think it through, but for right now I'll just say it took me a literal year to actually get through it, so......there's that.

Edit: Alright folks, we're back.

This book had so much potential. I loved the concept of the plot, it seemed so incredibly interesting, but it was just...not well executed. It's a shame, too, because the author does a great job at making things feel real and they're a very talented writer, but I feel like it was all wasted in this story. Suspending my disbelief for how the app worked to begin with only went so far as it was, but this was just bad. I only pushed myself to finish it because I was already so far in, I might as well. But hopefully someone out there will be saved the trouble.

So many parts of it just dragged on and on, and there was SO much detail put into parts that didn't have ANY relevance to the plot whatsoever - so much so that it took me out of the story entirely, because it took so long to get through it that by the time the plot got going again, I had forgotten what was happening prior. For example, at one point, the lead was going on about the detail she was putting into her temp job, like about her filing methods or something - I don't even remember at this point - and it took a couple of full pages to get through it. Then she finally gets back to the point of the story and those filing methods and that temp job aren't even mentioned again after she leaves it. So what was the point of spending pages and pages learning about that??!?

I did really like the main lead and her brother's relationship, and the representation of a deaf character and use of sign language throughout the book. Their relationship as siblings felt more natural than a lot of fictional sibling relationships. A lot of times you get the "hey little bro!" "Hey big sis!" type cliche, but I didn't feel that much with them. It was nice.

That said, a lot of the other characters were just... Dull. They felt like they were only put in to fulfill a checklist of diversity needs, rather than having actual depth to them. There's quite literally a character of every single description, race, sexuality, disability, etc., imaginable in here - which *would* be FANTASTIC, if the characters were made for more than their focal point of cramming everyone in to ensure having a character that fits every description in one book. Diversity in books is a necessary and beautiful thing - the world around us is diverse, so our media should be, too - but it comes across as HIGHLY ingenuine here.

It also felt like there wasn't really a conflict in the book but the author felt like there needed to be one so it was thrown in last second to create tension when there didn't need to be, and then the solution of it felt rushed, too. She got mad at the guy for forgetting and then not mentioning something that happened 10+ years ago that she didn't even know about to begin with?? It just felt petty.

If I could give this just .5 ⭐ I would, and it would be for the brother alone. He was funny and sweet. And now I see she's made a sequel that has the exact same plot - hard working girl looking for a job that is also trying to find her soulmate and has to deal with this MET app. Won't be reading, I can already tell how it ends.
