This book was pretty predictable but was still cute and the characters were very likable. It dragged a little for me, but it’s fairly short so it’s still enjoyable.
Moderate: Sexual content
Not What I Expected
This novel was not what I expected, in a good way. I was expecting a modern romance novel and instead got a book on dealing with grief and starting over. The book stalled in some parts but overall was a nice read.

While I have been fortunate enough not to lose a friend so close to me, this book is such an eye opener of what someone experiences to lose someone unexpectedly, who is so ingrained in their lifestyle. Losing a friend is so much different than losing a grandma or or another elder in your family, so to watch how she navigate her life after and trying to find out who she is again is so interesting.
Then the romance of the story is also so compelling. When you're actually dating you're constantly having to having to think about weathink about whether you actually have feelings with these people or if the red flags are enough to push you away.
I think that Baker does such a good job of allowing the character to be herself and to try and find out what she wants out of life when she's at a point where everything is up in the air.

This is a hard book to rate because there was so much to enjoy about this, but also I kind of wanted something more?
I settled on 3.5 stars. It held a very authentic nature of a late 20something trying to find herself again and navigating her life while dealing with grief as well. I especially loved that our male lead was a Bisexual Black man because we know how much that representation matters. I loved the overall diverse nature of this book that went behind skin color and these weren’t just cast away characters. It felt more natural than in a lot of other books. Also I just love when stories have an unabashedly Black moment and y’all know it’s my dream to find a man to help me with my twist out.
I think that I was just mostly disappointed that the love story went exactly how I expected it which is no fault of the authors and it’s probably more on me for wishing for something else in a classic romance novel. Even though I loved the diversity, I also couldn’t really knock the fact the world presented in this novel was very aspirational, it is something that we want to try to achieve. It is something that needs to become the standard. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot!

I came across this book when I was looking for an audiobook on Kindle Unlimited. I was looking for something lighthearted and fun that I could listen to in the car, and safe to say this book achieved that!

Corinne’s life has been turned completely on its head. Her best friend has recently passed away, so she left her stable job and life in Texas to move to Chicago. After a party at her cousin’s house one night she wakes up, hungover, to find a new app installed on her phone: Met. The app promises that she is about to meet her soulmate, who will be one of four people from her past that are about to come back into her life.
Corinne was a great character, especially as the book progressed and she began to grow in confidence. The cast of characters is the real stand-out aspect of this novel, including all four potential matches (who range from the truly terrible to the wonderfully lovable), Corinne’s friends, and her family. Kudos to Camille Baker for not just writing a diverse cast but for writing them well. Someone’s sexuality, gender, or disability was never the defining thing about them, but it affected their day-to-day lives and how they interacted with the world. I particularly liked Cory one of the main characters, who is bi; I found his character really compelling and I strongly related to the way he talked about his sexuality.
While the premise of the soulmate app was a little contrived and appeared out of nowhere, I didn’t mind it at first. A bit like in sci-fi, if something is integral to the world or the story, you just have to accept it regardless of whether or not it’s possible. I was quite happily going along with it but as the story progressed I had two main issues with it as a plot device. The first was that I couldn’t understand Corinne’s reliance on it. She tells us time and time again that she doesn’t believe the app and that she wants it off her phone, but when it comes to big life decisions to trusts the app over her own judgement. Without spoiling anything, I wasn’t a fan of the reveal as to why the app was there; I would have much preferred it had the app just stayed a mystery.
Overall, this was a really fun read with a great group of characters, but the plot just didn’t quite do it for me, starting off promising but ending up frustrating.

This book was so cute and inspiring in times where you feel lost and alone after losing a loved one.
Moderate: Cancer, Death, Sexual content
I picked this up about a week and a half ago and just hit a point where I was no longer interested in the story. Not enough was keeping me invested or interested. However, this is not necessarily a permanent DNF; I may pick this back up at a later date as I didn't find anything I particularly hated or found problematic. It was simply not the read for me at the time.
This story follows Corinne who moves back to Chicago after the death of her best friend and narrates her journey to finding love through a mysterious app that appears on her phone.
This book was okay, it was rather inconsistent though and the plot felt all over the place. Corinne wasn't an easy character to connect to and most of the other characters felt one-dimensional. The idea was an interesting one, however.

Started off slow, but then I couldnt put it down. I adored the writing that brought the reader to a closer understanding of the main character. I was left wanting a bit more, but overall it was heartwarming and a fun read.
