Good story but after reading the Flowers in the Attic series, a little bit of a let down. I was expecting more. Maybe the next book in the series will be better.
I am fully aware that I am probably generous in my star rating right now because this book worked wonders in keeping me distracted from my anxiety.
The audiobook was a delight! I dont know I could have painted such a full picture of the cajun grandpere without the narrator's delivery of his character.
This book was a soap opera, and I was there for it!

This was a re-read for me. It was fun to read knowing most of the major plot points. I did forget some of the minor ones, though. This is supposed to be a Lifetime movie soon so I am very interested in seeing the setting, which is probably my favorite part about this series.
Ruby makes for a good protagonist as well, though she makes plenty of mistakes in a world that seems hell bent on making her life difficult. I enjoyed her relationship with her grandmere and father the most, though the complicated relationship with her sister and stepmother was interesting.
Paul Tate is also one of my favorite men from the VCA world.
Definitely one of the better ghostwritten books.

This wasn’t bad, but I felt like things wrapped up a little too quickly and easily at the end. One second the girl’s getting locked up, the next, everything’s hunky dory. I’ll be interested in seeing how things continue in the next book — if it takes. Otherwise, I like it. And is it just me, or is the cover of every V.C. Andrews book hugely entertaining?
This is actually the first V.C. Andrews book I’ve read. I happen to have this whole series (for once), courtesy of my dad’s house cleaning.
