DNF'd for now. I do intend to begin reading this book again in future, but the French is currently quite a bit beyond my level, and more a challenge than it probably should be - I find myself either losing the thread of a paragraph or looking at the translation every sentence. I think I will read some other books in French and return to this later... I left off after L'occupation Des Sols (The Occupation of the Ground - my favourite of the stories so far) and before Le Navet (The Third Rate Film).

I liked this book, overall the translations were good but sometimes too simplistic and maybe not the best.

Found more enjoyable ways to continue my French learning. Found this a little too dense

I picked this up to see if it would be okay to pass on to the girl I tutor in French—it's not really appropriate for her age, but I found some new short stories that I really like. My favourites were definitely The Third Rate Film, which was surprisingly lovely and Accursed Notebooks, which comes from a novel that I now really want, but is available NOWHERE. I guess I'll just have to read this short story over and over again...

You know that meme where it’s like “I just came here to have a good time, and I’m feeling so attacked right now”? Yeah that’s me right now
I thought these short stories would be fun and light-hearted and instead they were so sad and at best, melancholic. They all definitely ended in such a surprising note and I can’t say I enjoyed any of them
