Three women, three POVs. They're connected by an advertising firm, which is mysteriously set on fire. But by whom?
Felt more like a contemporary drama than a mystery thriller. The best feature of this book was that it was easy to read but that was because the writing was bland. Structurally, it was fine but it didn't excite me. If anything, I was exasperated with everyone and everything the entire time. It was all a little too obvious, such as the 'secret agendas' and the arsonist, the ending. Which is why the title didn't really make sense. After this book and [b:To Tell You the Truth|49203372|To Tell You the Truth|Gilly Macmillan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1594616276l/49203372._SY75_.jpg|75844237], I realized that upper/middle-class, older, career-driven, white women (possibly with children) stories are not for me, however.

After maternity leave from her advertising agency, Laura willingly goes back to work. But when she finds her temp has replaced her, she reconsiders her priorities. Even though she has the promise of a bigger client, she cannot let go of the fact that her replacement lied about only waiting her job temporarily.
The temp has other ideas about the job and her reason for being at Morris and Wood.
And the CEO's wife has concerns about her husband's need to work at all hours, and is missing her work in London.
All three have motives that come together to make them suspects when Morris and Wood is set on fire.
The reminder of office politics makes me happy I'm working from home!
Interesting story, with a different approach, and beautifully written. The only thing that fell short was the ending - I did not think the motives were strong enough in the end, but I enjoyed the ride!

My first read from Heidi Perks is a suspenseful, well-written, and emotionally rewarding drama with topical themes and likable characters. The customary flurry of twists in the eleventh hour are particularly impressive here, and I would be happy to read more from the author - as I work through my massive reading list I’m sure I’ll run into her again.
Rounding up to a 4. Not fantastic, but really entertaining and riveting. Alternativing between characters and interspersing police interviews was very effective.
Three women have to face the aftermath of a horrifying fire and one of them may be guilty. There is so much dialogue and description of absolutely nothing. The characters talk about the hardships of motherhood, maternity leave, having a career and work life balance. It started off interesting but I think after the first chapter I got bored because of this. The work place drama got petty, immature, and old very quickly. I didn’t care for any of the characters or couldn't even remotely relate to them. One character in particular, Laura, annoyed me so much I just wanted to slap her. I wouldn't recommend this book. I literally didn't even care who set the fire or who died or about anything.

This book is good. The characters are vivid and their struggles are very realistic.
I unfortunately have read it after having read Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere, both of which share similar themes. If I didn't have that frame of reference, I would probably have rated it higher.

This is my first book by Perks, but won't be my last. I was interested in premise right away. I loved the idea of three suspects and I loved how the book went back and forth to the police interrogation. I loved the characters.... not always do I like all of the characters in the book. I did... I could relate in one way or another with each of them. The main reason this book wasn't a 5 star read for me was because even though I loved it, it was pretty predictable. I had the main idea of the ending pretty quickly and wasn't super surprised with anything that happened.
3.5 stars. Twists and turns. A little slow to develop but it was a page turner for me.
