A novel that begins with an advertising firm burning to the ground soon introduces the reader to three women who are directly associated with the inferno. Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks is a whodunit that aptly satisfies thriller-lovers’ need for surprises and unrelenting suspense. Laura, a wife and mother, returns to the world of advertising after being on maternity leave. Mia, the woman who temporarily filled her position, has taken over her accounts and her office and will not be surrendering them. It seems that she has an ulterior motive in staying with the company and Laura is secretely investigating her past. Janie, the wife of the CEO of the firm, suspects that either woman may be involved with her husband. And this sets the scene for lies and more lies. Each woman has her reasons for lying and the lies will lead to a deadly fire. The author alternates the narrative between the three women and a police detective who is investigating the crimes. All roads will lead to a shocking ending. I thorouhly enjoyed this original mystery. Highly recommended. Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank the author, publisher and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I was really excited to win a copy of this book. I've heard quite a bit about it so far, and enjoyed the author's previous book, Her One Mistake, when I won an ARC copy of it last year. The reviews are all mostly glowing, and I was ready for a great book.
But it didn't work for me. From page 1, I was still curious and excited - I stayed up past my bedtime to see what happened next! Then - things stopped happening. Jumping around from different POV's and time frames got to be confusing, and I couldn't' easily flip back to see the last section, as I was reading on an ebook, so soon found myself having to take notes about which POV and time line I was in. This didn't sweep me up and keep me turning the pages, it made me want to put it down and not finish it. But I don't like to do that when I've won an ARC, so I kept reading. And overall, it was ok, but wasn't all I'd hoped.
At the beginning, this would have been a 3 or 4 star book for me, but by the end, I feel more like 2.5, rounding down to 2 stars. IT was just a huge disappointment for me. I will look for the author's next book, but I think it will need to be in print vs ebook, in case flipping back a few pages helps out.

Three women, with 3 different reasons to burn down a building, but who did it? This book is an engaging and entertaining read with relatable characters. One of the characters by the name of Laura is returning to work at an ad agency (located in the building that burnt down) after having her first child. This book touches on the demands placed on women juggling work, life and family expectations as well as sexual discrimination and inequity in the workplace and society. I truly enjoyed this book and was kept guessing as to who started the fire until the very end of the book.

Honestly, I nearly quit at the beginning, because the dynamics of the PR agency reminded me too much of my own time at Burson-Marsteller, particularly when I came back from maternity leave. I felt for Laura immediately. BUT I powered through, and found a complex story of relationships and what might drive women to make big decisions. It was twisty, and new plot items were added along the way, making it harder to figure out how this might end. I found my loyalty to Laura, Mia, and Janie switching along the way, which I like, as it shows the characters are complicated enough to be likable and unlikable. I did appreciate the way that women in the workplace - or not- are considered in their communities, and the struggle that they all face. This was pretty good. By the end I sort of didn't care "who dun it" but it was entertaining overall.
I really liked Laura’s internal struggle as a working mom but that’s really what kept me reading. It was a super slow burn (pun intended
So far good but I HATE Laura’s whiny obsessive ass. That’s why apparently no one in the office liked her. She is so annoying and should just find another damn job already and stop pissing and moaning about this one. As for Mia, she is a complete idiot. I understand being upset and wanting to get back at Miles but his attorney? That’s just stupid that’s what defense attorneys do. They defend. Get revenge on the man who raped her sister not the attorney. That doesn’t solve shit. Mia was selfish and myopic.
I found this story to be a bit too much of a slow burn for my taste - the last 25% or so flew by, but the first 75% was slow enough that I had a hard time getting into it initially. I appreciated the character development of the three women, although I wish we had gotten to know more about Mia's background earlier in the book as it made her a difficult character to understand. I enjoyed the story as a whole and the multiple POV set-up, but overall this was a like not love book for me.

This was a juicy little domestic thriller that was quite good and kept me interested the entire way through.
Told through the viewpoints of 3 different characters, all connected to the same marketing firm in some capacity, helped to add a lot of depth to the story and they intertwined well throughout. There were times when the story felt a bit slow and there wasn't much going on, but that didn't last very long and the story picked up soon enough.
I was certain I had this one figured out about 3/4 of the way through, but I was pleasantly surprised by a much deeper final act that gave the character's stories so much more gravity and was very satisfying.
Overall all the characters that were highlighted had depth, were somewhat easy to root for (Laura was one I did struggle with for a while until the pieces started falling into place), and proved important to the overall story, and I very much enjoyed this story!

This book was about three professional women, who are all lying about something, and the mystery of who started a fire that burned down the office building. The book had a lot of women's rights issues which was a nice tie-in. Around the 52% mark I considered abandoning the book, just because I was tired of hearing about Laura's constant paranoia and whining about her job, but I pushed through and finished the book. It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, but not a bad read.
