MIND ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY!!
FULL OF SPOILERS. ONLY SPOILERS ACTUALLY.
Actually i really need to start from that plot twist because wow!!!?? It absolutely changed the entire novel right at the end. I came into reading it after finishing THE SPIREALM and knew about Ruan Nanzhu somewhat but even then i was so shocked after reading that extra. What do you mean RNZ was the door god of the 12th door and watched LQS cross all the doors and then desired so ardently to be by his side that he made LQS forget everything as he entered his 12th door and entered with him. All of the story we read was actually LQS in his 12th door, his last door, with the door god RNZ of the same and relived all his doors, same story, same people and same everything just with RNZ now taking over LQS's role from the world outside the door. And LQS actually being the leader of Obsidian and the senior that RNZ knew of?
I literally had to scream out when i read that. And LQS figuring it out and yet never saying anything. Because it changed nothing for him? Ahh I love them. And their dynamic, If I die, I won't burden you to live for me? Like hello? Some of us are single here sir. Really was refreshing to read that kind of story. I'm left questioning everything really. It is so weird.
The 12th door no longer existing because RNZ, the door god, entered the real world. The Hako Onna door where RNZ does what he does was so sad. My favorite door has to be maybe the Mirrors one? How RNZ saved LQS there.
Also the part where RNZ started to ignore LQS because he did not want to make LQS see him die and then turn into a person obsessed with danger?? That was so heartbreaking but then immediately, the moment Tan Zaozao dies, he is there calling LQS again and again because he knows how devastated he must be after witnessing it? Their confession!!?? TOP TIER!!!
And the 11th door, every time they texted each other, trying to know if the other was doing okay and waiting for the messages, not being able to see each other, not able to call each other and then struggling to be together and talking after they meet, fighting ghosts all the time. Only getting nights together and then disappearing from each other the moment dawn hits. Night hours getting reduced until only an hour was left, RNZ going mad over losing him, promising LQS that he will find him, will never forget him. AHHHH.
LQS writing a diary in case he forgot RNZ and then waking up to find RNZ had forgotten him. Finding the key and entering the world where RNZ never even existed????? MY HEART!!
And LQS being alone and finally being in the REAL REAL world and finding out he has basically taken over RNZ's role in this world? (When it was his all along). And then living an year all alone, unable to accept this reality, people around him forgetting him slowly and then getting a call saying, RNZ IS BACK??? Their reunion? Their love?? Everything was perfect.
I just had to rant out everything i thought of to get over this obsession. READ KALEIDOSCOPE OF DEATH! NANQIU!!!

This story is just…woah. Man I don’t even know where to begin. It was funny. It was tense. It was such an overall interesting read.
Although my mind was catching small clues here and there regarding the plot twist, it still hit me like a roller coaster when the twist finally came.I thought it was so strange when the MC was starting to act so similar to the ML. The way he was picking up clues faster and the small things like lock picking felt so off to me, but I couldn’t place why. They felt so similar that in a way, it almost felt as though Lin Qiushi was becoming Ruan Nanzhu in that regard. It all makes much more sense now having read all of the story lol. I also can’t forget the little details such as Lin Quishi not crossing his first door in the beginning, Lin Quishi’s late stage liver cancer even though he “didn’t” smoke or drink, Ruan Nanzhu not knowing what his close to death experience was before the doors appeared, and so much more.
In a way, it kind of reminded me of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint in the mindfuckery of it all. Of course, they are two different stories, but the similar vibes made me enjoy this story all that much more.
For the characters themselves, I loved Lin Qiushi and it was such a joy to follow along with him as the story progressed. His obsession with cats was cute and it was so damn enjoyable when he had to interact with other characters. “He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.” Felt that buddy lol. Also, one of the top moments with his fuzzy companion had to be when he was rubbing his face in his cat that just so happened to also be in Ruan Nanzhu’s lap. Oh the hilarious misunderstanding that ensues.
I also really enjoyed Ruan Nanzhu and his outlandish comments. There were many times where the pure absurdity coming out of his mouth made me cackle. I think I was under his spell the moment he made a comment about how perky and plump Lin Qiushi’s ass was.Having forgotten everything about the doors, his non-human godhood, the reason for forgetting all of that (his love of Lin Qiushi and desire to be with him), it left a warmth in my chest to know mans was doomed to be whipped from the very beginning.
There were also plenty of other characters that I grew to appreciate and care for, (even super minor ones and some of the ghosts themselves) but I think the last one that truly has a special place in my heart was Ye Niao or “Gu Longming”. I will never be able to get his first appearance out of my mind. A “muscleman… wearing a blue crop top and a tiny white miniskirt that, when a breeze blew by, revealed what Lin Qiushi suspected were white panties underneath.” Can’t forget about his hair clip too. God it was too good. Love that guy. The only sad part is that his character doesn’t show up sooner (appears in chapter 80 around the River God arc).
Anywho, as a horror MLM genre lover, I really enjoyed this story and hope that one day they release physical English copies so that I may get my grubby hands on them. Now it’s time to watch the live action based off of this (The Spirealm).
