Spectacular space opera. Characters are multilayered, especially for Hadrian who is in an emotional turmoil after the tragedy from the last book. This book deals with trauma and grief, yet plot remains engaging with interesting developments.

Good book. I’ve heard that kingdoms of death and this one used to be one book, but enough stuff was added that it turned into two or something. I think Ashes is a weaker book than KoD

Doesn’t help that I had been spoiled that Valka dies. Made the death not hit as hard as the others in KoD
