6/5 isn't enough.
This is a masterpiece. I am a shell of a man after finishing it. I have no notes.

Another gut punch entry into the Suneater universe, man I would like something good to happen to Hadrian please. There is more political intrigue in here, which I think Ruocchio is excellent at writing, than the last book, but back to back downers is still a painful read. The huge gaps of time since we last saw some side characters also makes some relationships a little weird. Overall, still a really good book and excited for Suneater 6.

Ashes of man is the 5th book in the sun eater series, and yet another incredible sci-fi experience. Christopher Ruocchio manages to create a world that feels incredibly vast in scale. Events that happen centuries earlier in Hadrians life, really do feel like lifetimes ago for the reader following along with Hadrians journey. Hadrians grows from an idealistic and naive youth into an old man, experiencing great successes and even greater downfalls. The emotional connection we build up with the characters throughout the series is so incredible - and devastating. Ruocchio is incredibly talented and joins a very exclusive list of authors whose works I will 100% check out, no matter what they are.

This book broke me more than Kingdoms of Death. It was so good. Kind of slow in the beginning like most of these but so good. The expanded interactions between Hadrian and the Emperor were my favorite part of this book.
