Okay.. I will admit I was feeling a bit sluggish in this series after Kingdoms Of Death but Ashes of Man has captured me again!
As sad as it was that Valka died, I wholeheartedly believe it was exactly what the series needed to give it a second wind. Hadrian and Valka lived a lifetime together and tbh I was a bit bored of their relationship. After the entire red company was killed off I’ll admit I was disappointed to imagine reading about Valka and Hadrian for the next few books. I feel like this plot twist really sets a fresh start for Hadrian.
LOVED the politics! The Disquiet Gods chapter reminded me why I love this series so much. Hooked me all over again.

The first half of this book felt slow and repetitive. So much so that I debated DNF’ing it and giving up on the series. I’m glad I didn’t because the 2nd half of the book was so, so good.
