i thought the slow pacing of this book would hold me up, but i was just so endeared to francie and the way she saw the world around her that i found myself wanting to read “just one more paragraph, one more chapter” every opportunity i got. what a simple and sweet story.

This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read.  It has instantly become one of my favorite books of all time, and it is a book that I believe I will come back to periodically for the rest of my life.  I have never read a book that showcases the human experience better than this book does.

I first read this book in middle school and felt such a kindred spirit with Francie. Every time I read it it takes me away and I feel deeply about each of the characters even when my perspective changes on events due to time. An all time favorite of mine

this book is so, so beautiful. this is a timeless coming of age story -- and smith's musings on girlhood and adolescence still feel fresh and meaningful over 75 years later (i'm not sure i've ever read a better description of how literature has the power to shape a life).
