i really wanted to love this duology but there was just something missing for me. i appreciate the writing style because it was very detailed, but it felt like the pacing and character development was off and i was disengaged in the story because of it

Sorry but I have to take another star off because I was forced to read "their mouths fought for dominance" with my own two eyes.

"Your turn. What color do you like most?"
"You," he said. "Every color that makes you."

4/5⭐

Synopsis:
After the battle on Sharr, with Altair captured, Zafira, Nasir and Kifah head to Sultan's Keep to fulfill a plan to restore magic to Arawiya. Facing scarce resources and allies, they confront the looming threat of the Lion of the Night's return. Nasir struggles to control his newly found magical abilities to fight against his father and the Lion. Zafira battles a growing darkness within her. Despite their deepening love, they must make difficult sacrifices to restore order to their kingdom.

Final thoughts:
Honestly had a high expectation of how the story will unfolds, who turned out to be kinda rushed in my opinion, hence the great pacing of the rising action. Also, what's with the short chapters?
But, again, the beautiful writing and the character development kept me spellbound to this book until the end.

Again this was a case of from the parts I was able to fully pay attention to, it was well written and I enjoyed it, but also my brain can’t seem to focus on much right now, so there were definitely some nuances that I missed. Definitely plan to reread this when I can focus better!
