dark mysterious fast-paced

The pages kept turning. After some brief main character introductions it's mysterious, it's thrilling, it's suspense o'clock. I enjoyed reading this book.

What? A Stephen King fan reading a Dean Koontz book? Blasphemy!
It’s no secret that book fans are split down the middle when it comes to these writers, with King almost always being the winner.
So that being said, I wanted to see for myself if Koontz is really that bad as people make him to be.

Reading this in the beginning, I was hooked. Two sisters returning home and find the whole town has been murdered very graphically and they have to get help from the other town to see what the larger mystery has to do with the town.

It moved very quickly and I really liked how the characters had the escalating dread and seeing the discovery of how gruesome the corpses of the people can be.

On the whole I liked this even as an experiment, I just wished it was a little shorter, since there were plenty of scenes that featured the characters not doing that much. Not bad at all, just a tighter editor.

I'm a bit on the fence with this one. It's not the first time I've read it. I did so years ago and decided to give it another go. Now, in my first reading, I had loved it! Now, years later, I'm more mixed about it.

The story is good, the narration rendered well. The suspense makes it interesting as is the creepy atmosphere of the setting.

That said, the pace of the action lags and seems to drag along after a while. There are also too many different PoVs and though they are well voiced, in some cases I had no idea who the character was nor how he/she was tied to the story, honestly.

The romance aspect had been something I had really liked years ago. Now though, I'm a bit more jaded, with a bit more life experience and it just got on my nerve, really. If it was me in that sort of situation, the last thing I would be is making starry eyes at another person.

Still, this is Dean Koontz and, as such, the novel is good... just not as good as I remembered it though.

I remember liking it a lot more as a teenager but there's still a lot of fun to be had here.

By Dean Koontz

When I first decided to read this book, it was definitely an impulsive decision lol I saw it in the kindle app, said, "Ooh pretty cover," and started reading it. I dived it with very little knowledge of the book. I had no idea what was to come. I also had no idea that this would be come one of my favorite boooks!!

This is the first of Koontz' books I have read, and it did not disappoint at all! His writing in this book is phenomenal. It was so vividly written, I could see the scenes playing out in my brain as clear as if I was watching a movie. I felt like I was really there with the characters. I could truly feel their panic and terror.

☆☆☆☆☆

Phantoms by Dean Koontz was absolutely a 5/5 stars for me. I recommend it to anyone who's looking for something that'll keep you on the edge of your seat, and also looking for possible nightmares lol

audiobook. diverting enough for the drive, but really far from his best. probably wrote it in a weekend.

When I was 14, this was about the most spine chilling, edge-of-your-seat book I'd ever read. It's totally ridiculous, of course, but at the time it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Re-read another old favorite. :) It's pretty obvious that I found a whole box of Dean Koontz books in the garage!
