I've been reading a bunch of 80's horror for October and this one is a great example. Campy gore without getting to scary. The only thing that was a bit weird was the romance. Who falls in love while you're in the middle of examining dead bodies?

To my delight, for some unknown reason I scrolled through a list of Koontz books. I am a horror fan and really only read what most people would call his horror novels, even though the author himself disposes that title. So my time frame for Dean Koontz was when he was still Dean R Koontz.

I scrolled this list and realized I had never read Phantoms and by most accounts, readers usually put this at the top of his “horror” titles. It did not disappoint

Reading this brought me back in time to when he was all I read. Although since this was written in the early 80’s and it’s now 2020, the world has evolved and things in this book may be stuck in a time capsule somewhere. As with all of his books, the characters feel real and i was attached to each one of them, love or hate.

I had mixed feeling with this as I was super stoked that I found an old/new title that I missed, but kind of bummed as I feel this will be the last title I read by Koontz. This is no dog on him, as he is IMO on e of the great writers of today and yesteryear. But as I mentioned I am pretty much a reader of horror. Suspense and crime don’t really do much for me even though the line that separates these genres are generally pretty thin.

Busy as far as this title goes with his other books, I think it’s good but for me, lightning, Twilight Eyes and The Bad Place are three that I would put in front of this one

A fun, fast paced classic Koontz novel with a satisfying ending.

OMG!!!! This book keeps you on edge the entire time!!! This is one of my favorite Dean Kootz books, I love how scary it is without the gore of other horror stories. I love how he makes you think and I love how you spend the whole novel waiting for the next thing to happen, not even knowing what it is.

I remember reading this book years ago and back then I could not predict the ending, this time even having a vague memory of how it ends, I was still terrified and on edge.
