Very entertaining, but how could a derigible colony holding the last humans not be? I had difficulty getting invested in the characters who were just tropes: tired captain, gruff old man (our MC named X of course) who only learns to care about people again through adopting a kid
and then dies quickly after
, gifted kid, spunky girl/woman who's a little too confident (so she needs to be humbled by the MC, and "terrorist" black man
who is killed
(I KNOW , esp since he's  the only POC (from what I remember) besides other "terrorists" trying to make lives better for-i need to stop. Nothing in this book is incredibly profound or originalm

The literary equivalent of a bowl of mac and cheese. It may not be very refined or elegant It might even be too cheesy for its own good. You've again seen its like 1,000 times before, but it always satisfies and goes down easy.

I enjoy a good military sci-fi novel. Hell Divers is the perfect summer, military Sci-fi series. There is a plot but the book is mostly action, fighting and surviving on a post WWIII decimated Earth. I've already read the second book and have the third book "on deck."

RC Bray's narration takes this book from a 3 to a 4. He's easily one of my favorite narrators and doesn't another amazing job.

The story itself is enjoyable. Its some 100s of years in the future after WWIII which went ahead and ruined everything. I wish there had been some more of the political world building. We're told that the people who were on The Hive at the time were all important people, so what changed along the years that forced the offspring of these important folks to become lower deckers. I also get they're some of the only humans left in existence, but maybe we have less children when we're on a ship with finite resources, just sayin.

This series is huge, I will probably at some point listen to the next one, but it's not something I'm rushing into.

DNF @ 33%. this book is "what if godzilla halo jump but mOrE" with shit world building and meh character work and lame social commentary and nothing but action and while it was fine to listen to while building a lego set, i have no desire to continue. audiobook narrator was great.
