Never read the original Archie, but binge-watched Riverdale so I ended up here. I really liked this? Fiona's art is AMAZING, I actually felt kind of disappointed when they changed the art midway through, but the story was pretty great.I loved Betty and Jughead, they're like in the show but just better? I don't know, I love both of them, and as it happened in the show, both Archie and Veronica bothered me somehow. Anyway, great start to this series! Will keep reading.

Enjoyed this first introduction to this new Archie series. I fell in love with the show Riverdale and wanted to find something relative to it that I could become addicted to as well. Even though these comics aren't as dark and addicting as the show was, I did still like this volume. I really like the artwork, it is different that what I have seen from other works done associated with Mark Waid's name on it which was refreshing. It was really nice to change up my usual DC comics binge and go for something that was more realistic. Overall, solid volume and already bought the second one and can;t wait to see what happens next.

I’ve loved Archie comics since I could first read. I used to snag a copy of a digest to read at the grocery store while my parents shopped, and would end up sneaking the title in with the groceries so I could finish it. So when I found out Archie got a 21st century reboot, with artwork done by the amazing Fiona Staples, seven year old Allison shrieked.

And I was not disappointed by the work of Staples and writer Mark Waid.

Not only was Archie updated with Uber, hashtags, fake I.D.s, and luncheons with Taylor Swift, but it was updated to reflect real, modern problems that teenagers face. Archie and Betty have a past, Jughead and his family have real monetary issues, and Veronica is your typical wealthy suburban princess you went to high school with, who had killer wardrobe you were envious of.

The characters are another reason I loved this reboot. They are all fleshed out, with believable personalities and problems. Instead of perfect teenagers, living in perfect Riverdale, they are flawed with jealousy and selfishness, but still doing their best to navigate high school with their friends. The drama among the characters is both heartbreaking and hilarious.

These flaws and issues also make the graphic novel contain real conflict. Tomboy Betty wants to remain true to herself, but also wants friends and people to like her. Veronica puts up a front that she doesn’t care what Riverdale High thinks of her, but we see that she does, and especially cares what Archie thinks of her. You go from Team Betty to Team Veronica easily because Waid does a fantastic job making you sympathize for both girls.

And Archie is literally a typical teenage boy who just wants to get along with everyone and be happy. He’s insecure, but means well, and just wants to keep his normal life.

My only criticism of the series is the change in artists. Nothing was wrong with Annie Wu or Veronica Fish as illustrators, but I definitely am biased and prefer Staples to be the only illustrator for the series. I did like Wu’s work for the middle of the volume, but Fish’s felt a little too cartoony at times. However the change in artists didn’t deter me from the story at all. Waid still maintained the heart of Archie through his writing.

This is the reboot I didn’t even know I wanted for Archie, but I see how needed it was. I love this, and cannot wait for the next volume, as well as the spinoff of Jughead that comes out this summer. I want more!

It's crazy how good this is. I think everyone has read an Archie comic at some point in their life, I know I have read more than a few. This new take both feels like those old stories and doesn't. It's contemporary yet (largely) timeless (a few references will date much faster than the rest). And most importantly, it's FUN. I give this my highest recommendation!

I loved Archie comics (especially Betty and Veronica) as a kid but I wasn't overly excited about this reboot. Mostly I picked it up out of curiosity and a bout of nostalgia. But wow. I'm so impressed. Mark Waid vastly improved on the old series. All the hallmarks of the series are still there, but there is now a depth that was always lacking from the old series. And Fiona Staples can just do no wrong.

I think I'm the wrong generation to enjoy this graphic novel. While I did read some Archie when I was a kid, it's been so long that I don't recall the dynamic between Archie, Betty, and Ronnie. In this volume of comics, Archie and Betty, childhood sweethearts, break up due to a misunderstanding. Then Ronnie's father moves to town and Archie is immediately smitten by Ronnie, who treats him as a lapdog. I didn't care for her or Arcpchie. Betty was fine and Jughead made appearances. Maybe reading more would help developed this characters in a way to make them appear more relatable.

I know OF Archie, but I don't think I've ever read any comics before, so it was a mostly new experience. I quite enjoyed it! Just a fun teen romantic comedy. And the art by Fiona Staples certainly doesn't hurt.

So this is my first venture into the Archie universe, as I never understood the appeal of the classic comics. And I loved this modernized version- especially the art! Also Jughead Jones is a gift and I can't wait to read his spin-off series!

It's really interesting reading all these new Archie/Riverdale comics and comparing them to the originals, as well as watching the show. I always struggled between who I liked more growing up, Betty or Veronica, but after watching Riverdale and reading all of these different comics, I am totally Team Betty. (Team Bughead in the show, but otherwise Betty all the way, Veronica is not nice to Archie!).

I thought this was such a fun story! I haven't read many contemporary graphic novels, and I also haven't found many graphic novels that really get to me emotionally. However, this volume really made me giggle and saw awww throughout it! The art style also feels very reminiscent of Saga because Fiona Staples is also the illustrator for this story!

I'm excited to try Volume 2!
