Ozzy Osborne type
Buys a haunted suit for fun
He does not have fun

The haunted suit wants
Retribution for a wrong
Freaky shit ensues

Although a fun read
This is not what I would call
A scary story

Joe does not play, like his dad, he starts out rolling!  this book just did not let up on our poor hero, Jude.   He just takes the hits and keeps on taking them!   I loved this book so much.   I already added his full length, and collections to my wish list.

I like Joe Hill. I’m not a horror fan, but this is a pretty good story about a man and woman facing their own psychological demons while battling the ghost of a demented child molester-hypnotist.

His dark, damaged rock star protagonist with a parade of young goth groupie girlfriends makes a pretty good protagonist.

The creepy, dark suited former interrogator and hypnotist makes a good enough villain. You want your ghosts to be a bit single minded. If they aren’t here to torment the living or to make peace with their deaths, what are they doing hanging around? This guy is pretty dedicated in his quest for destruction.

Even after all of the revelations in the last third of the book I was a little unsure why the ghost decided to haunt Judah. He might have awakened the ex-girlfriend to the hypno-molestation by her step father, but he didn’t actually stop it, didn’t go to the police, and wasn’t causing them any problems. He did, while living, did kill the ex-girlfriend, but would Judah have ever looked for her and found out? Was the ghost and his surviving step-daughter just mad about the whole thing? The haunting that is the central plot driver lacks a plausible motive. However, it took me until the very end to figure out that there isn’t a good reason for this haunting, so I suppose it didn’t matter that much.

It’s a good book.

Was surprised to like this book as much as I did considering I really only read it because it was only $2 on kindle. The characters were well fleshed out, flawed but in a realistic and loveable way. The first half did have some parts that creeped me out which is pretty hard to do, although the second half was more thriller. I even shed a few tears but that was my own fault for

Wow. What an intense read. Very reminiscent of his dad, but it is still uniquely Joe Hill's voice.
