I appreciated the topic of this book and its insistence on allowing mothers more space to experience and communicate regret. The emphasis on qualitative research and interviews definitely suited it and I'd love to see more conversation in this vein. But on a writing level, this could've strongly benefitted from an editor: it kept repeating its main thesis when I wanted it to go deeper, when it could've had a much more consistent and chronological build throughout the chapters. It was kind of like a 101 (I could've read this as an article) when I wanted way more nuance and development throughout a book-length work.

This is a sociological study, so if you aren't familiar with reading articles then it can be a little dense. But the author does a good job of focusing on the stories and not getting too lost in jargon. It also explores a topic that often isn't discussed, but it is so valuable to hear from women themselves about what makes motherhood difficult or what makes them regret motherhood.
