8th Best Book of 2017!
The last two pages (before the epilogue) were disappointing -4.5*
I've absolutely LOVED travelling to Sweden everyday and it has just made my commute 1000% better. I think I was so amazed by the last one (#4) that I found this one kinda disappointing. I mean it did have the same elements as the Millennium series so far, obviously missing Stieg Larsson's flair.
I'm just really pissed because the last three pages were rushed and sort of ruined the ending of the book for me. The whole plot was overshadowed by something else and I sort of hated it. Salander was like Salander but she wasn't everything I loved about Salander (as she was stuck in a prison for the majority). I didn't like the flashbacks and I know it made sense to the story but honestly I don't feel like they worked. I prefer Blomkvist telling the story and the flashbacks sort of removed that. He also wasn't the shining detective that was so evident in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the presence of Millennium was really lost, despite this being the title of the series.
Yeah, I enjoyed it and I'll read the next one but kind of disappointing.

Interesting plot, but I found it a bit long-winded and, occasionally improbable.
I continue to be disappointed with Lagercrantz's writing. I knew no one would ever be Larsson but... this writing, the story, the characters... all of it fall flat. The only reason I keep going is for Lisbeth and even she is starting to become a caricature.

This was a pretty decent thriller/mystery, but it just doesn't have the same magic as the original books with the original author.
Honestly I can't think of much more to write about this book. I'll probably forget about it by the end of the week.

I liked this one a lot! Much better than the 4th one. I think the new author is very true to the characters and the story line in this one was a page turner. Lisbeth is still my hero!
I like revisiting Lisbeth’s world and finding out more about her character, but this one wasn’t as good as the original 3. Still, it held my interest and there was what seemed like set up for the next on entwined with the plot so I am sure I’ll keep listening to this series as they come out.

Now that I've been to Sweden, I can picture the environment so much better!
This definitely wasn't my favourite book of the series, but it held me well enough that I enjoyed myself. I feel like this one was just missing something of the essence of what makes this series amazing. However, it was still a decent read.

It was nice to read about Salander again. I'm glad that I waited a while to finish the series though. Even with my bad memory and years since I last read a Salander book, something felt off. I'm guessing that's where the bad reviews come from, people with better memories than myself who can better recall the previous books. This book wasn't bad, but it's different which can cause problems with fans.
I didn't realize until after I wrote the review that the 4th book was also written by this author, maybe that's why I took a break for a while. Unfortunately, I didn't write a review so I have no idea.
I was a little disappointed that Salander was not in much of this book. She's sitting in jail in the background for most of it. She does seem a little different, more super human maybe. I remember her being pretty badass, especially with computers, but not having the physical prowess she has in this book.
