I found my audiobook copy of AN OCTOBER BRIDE by Katie Ganshert on Scrib'd!

I don't enjoy when a writer brings politics into a story needlessly. The plot and characters had nothing to do with politics, and yet the narrative kept bringing them in. By the time I completed this short book, I didn't know the first thing about the characters' politics (except maybe the mayor, who never shows up on the page, but gets brought up enough) but I had a pretty good handle on the author's politics -- which had nothing to do with the story at hand.

Unfortunately, it was a sweet story that I would have otherwise enjoyed, so I give it two stars for that.

I'm a sucker for dating/marriage of convenience stories and this one checked all the boxes for me. My only disappointment was I wouldn't have minded if it was longer... ;) well, and I would have loved to get Jake's side of the story because I know it would have been swoon worthy.

~ Audiobook Review ~
So cute! Wanting to make her fathers secret dream of walking her down the isle come true before he dies, Emma must find a groom... immediately! Conveniently her high school crush from years ago, Jake, is currently at her house... perfect!

I found her dads cancer battle moving. I appreciated Lilly voicing her conscience and yet not walking out of Emmaโ€™s life. First person isnโ€™t my favourite but it was just a short novella.

Series: This is Book 11 of 12 in the A Year of Weddings 1 Series. The series is a compilation of short novellas each written by different Christian romance authors. There is a book for every month. Each book stands alone (occasionally the characters may be tied to another novel by that author.)

Content: I appreciated the Christian faith element woven in especially as she processes her dads cancer and believing for healing and all the confusing things of faith in suffering. The romance was sweet and kept to just a couple non-descriptive kisses.

Audio Performance: 6/10
Kristy gave an unvoiced narration (meaning the characters didnโ€™t have unique voices but all sound the same)

This novella is adorable! It was a light, easy and fun read about Emma and Jake's road to the altar. I need Liam and Lilly's story now!

This book was great! It dealt with a very painful subject, losing a loved one to cancer and what you'll do to make their last days memorable. The religious angle wasn't preachy at all, but very subtle and relevant to the story. I was easily able to identify with the heroine, and the hero was a very kind and charming man. All of the characters were interesting and vibrant, and I could really picture the small town setting! While this was a short story, I didn't feel cheated at all, and I will be on the lookout for more from this author!

4.5 stars. I've only read a handful of the books in this series of novellas, but they've all been great! I love the religious aspect and appreciate that it isn't overdone. This was a very sweet story -- wish it had been longer!

A Year of Weddings 1 #11 according to series and publication date Incorrectly #10 on Goodreads

Genre: Contemporary Christian Clean Romance, Novella, Christian Fiction,

Featuring: Wisconsin, Small Towns, Cancer, Fake Dating Trope, Friends to Lovers, Father Daughter Relationships, Discussion Questions, Next Book Preview

Rating as a movie: PG for adult themes

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

My thoughts: 16% - These people are crazy! This is going to be good.
79% - I hate being forced to leave my book. This is good so far.

I wonder if the authors were chosen by region since they had 2 Texas books back-to-back and now 2 Wisconsin books back-to-back?  Anyway, I really enjoyed this story. The only thing I did not like about it was it ended too soon, but it's novella so, there's that.

Recommend to others?: Yes. Not for everyone but it's not your typical fake dating story.
