I've read a lot of mystery books where the crime occurs in the first couple of chapters, you know who did it and how, and the rest of the book is the detective or police tracking them down until they're caught and put into jail (or even killed).
This book took that same concept and completely flipped it on its head. The back cover flaunted some "twists" which I think is only semi-accurate because it's not the typical kind of "twist" you see in this genre.
I found the writing to be really simple yet engaging. I also really appreciated how the setting felt really grounded...not a lot of characters to remember, and not a lot of traveling to different locations so you have a lot of time to get to know the characters, their motivations, and the environment they're in.
Definitely going to be picking up the next book, and I hope they continue to be translated into English. Might also have to explore more Japanese mystery novels...
