I think this isn't a poetry book that I'll read cover to cover - its more for dipping in and out of

I’ve written a lot about Frank O’hara. Anyone who knows me knows that I can’t talk about poetry without quoting him, without talking about his poetry and life. I finally had the chance to sit down and finish this huge ‘selected poems’ book I’ve owned for years, and I feel better for having read it. I had read most of the poems that are in it before, but still found new ones and new writings that I wasn’t familiar with. It’s definitely a good representation of O’hara’s poetry stylings and the way he changed over the years. If you want a good, big poetry book to give you an overview, this is a good one. Otherwise I’d recommend picking up ‘Meditations in an Emergency’ and ‘Lunch Poems’ for more curated books.

Some of the most beautiful poetry I've ever read.

This is a gorgeous collection of poetry that paints New York in a beautiful, warm and almost nostalgic light while still retaining a charming sense of humor and a heart-wrenching perspective on love. Reading these poems felt like coming home to a warm meal; perfect for November nearing Thanksgiving. The pages are dog-eared and marked up, now, which to me indicates a truly good collection of poetry. I did not expect how funny some of these could be; the friends he mentions in each poem are so tangible and real you can almost hear them laugh. There is an energy to these poems that, while on occasion are somber and heartbroken, remain in a kind of Golden-Age joy that makes me look upon this collection with fondness. It reminds me of a rapper Gatsby, a glorious party with ups and downs and a homey, hopeful happy ending.
