Jason. Freaking. Reynolds. Is the man. The one. The only.

This last installment of the Track series was so much more than I expected. I have been holding off on reading it because I didn’t want it to end. This man ALWAYS GETS ME and I NEVER see it coming…even though I KNEW something was coming, he got me again.

Our last Defender is Lu. As a child born to parents who didn’t think they could have kids and an albino, Lu is one in a million, a lightning strike. I don’t even want to say any more about his story because these books are so special, and anyone who has read 1-3 will read this one too.

Jason writes the most relatable and memorable characters — the children and the adults. These books remind me that everyone has a story, we all have our hurdles that we have to overcome. I can’t recommend this series enough.

That was a great story. Yes if you’re old and “well-read” you might think this was too neat and maybe a bit cliche. But I will disagree, because sometimes when you want todo the thing, you just need to do the thing. In this case it was telling the story, and Reynolds told the story and told the story well.
Over these four books he showed us the heart and soul of these four characters and delivered stories of growth, redemption, and family.
They deserve a read, and I know I’m gonna go look for more to read by an author who is a great storyteller.

I really enjoyed this series. Each book was a great/quick read and concisely introduced the protagonists problems and their resolutions. I plan to read more by this author.

I cried.

I just loved this series so much. Jason Reynolds crams so much life into 4 short books about a middle school track team and the coaches that guide them and love them. Would highly recommend for great family conversation starters or 5th grade and up book clubs.

I’m so sad to end the Track series, so it seemed appropriate that I cried through the last few pages. This book was so good, and the whole series is so good. I love how the characters had truly unique voices and situations and experiences. I recommend this to anyone and everyone.

This series is just the best. My kid found something to personally identify with in every book in the series. Middle-grade students LOVE Jason Reynolds, and it's easy to see why. His writing is authentic to young people--he's not writing for the adults who write critiques--and he really, really understands his audience.
