this was such an amazing sequel!! I absolutely love Esmae, she's turning into one of my favourite main characters! This world is so amazing and well-crafted. I can't wait for book 3!

A compelling second book that continues to explore the tension between fate & free will in this epic saga.

I read a lot of fantasy and I always have the problem of focus especially with regard to big casts and a lot of characters names. Sci-fi especially loses me with all the new planets and species that I have to keep track of. But I never had these problems with Mandanna's writing. It's concise and gorgeous. Breathtaking in its finality and straightforwardness. Whenever I read Mandanna's writing, I am overwhelmed with an urge to stab and cheat and maybe commit matricide. Which I'm sure is Mandanna's intention in writing such murderous intent in Esmae. Our heroine is not doing the best in the sequel but she's as ruthless and unforgiving and I love her for that. You go get your revenge, girl. I'm rooting for her. I can't wait to dig into the last of the trilogy but also, I don't want to let go of this rich, lush universe with its impeccable twists and turns. It's even more breathtaking than the first. I can't wait to read the conclusion of this epic tale.
