More than anything, the message of this book is what makes it so powerful. The way it portrays the trauma of sexual assault and the culture of silence surrounding it is not only accurate and handled with care but also painfully realistic. I noticed that some reviews have said that certain themes felt too heavy-handed, as if the book spoon-fed its messaging rather than allowing for personal interpretation. But I believe that was entirely intentional. This story isn’t meant to be subtle, it forces you to confront the reality of these issues, basically beating you over the head with it, so you won’t forget them.
At its core, Beartown is a character study, with plot threads woven throughout. While junior hockey may be the backdrop, the book is really about a town grappling with the consequences of the culture it has built. Some characters are realizing the damage they’ve contributed to, while others are on the frontlines, bearing the brunt of it. It’s beautiful, heartbreaking, frustrating, and—above all—an essential read.

fredrik stay cookin in this book it was great we are well fed
for the amount of characters and povs we get i don't think i was ever particularly lost and portions of this book incited so much rage within me and i think you know it's well written when you hate a character based off their actions and not just because you think they're cringy idk man fredrik really prepped and then served a four course meal here i might even read the rest of the series
