i gather this is at once not representative of PKD (not sci fi) and but also kind of representative (wry portrait of an linked set of people blunted on their respective realities). i found myself wondering why i was still reading it, leaning back from the book pages at some of the repugnant behavior, and being really disappointed when it was over. plot summary doesn't really do it justice; also it is deeply not actually about confession or crap or art at all, just kind of an spot on portrait of thwarted weirdos and the lies we live by etc) CW not for you if the prospect of household pets getting assassinated is upsetting

I actually prefer this to Ubik or any of the sci fi short stories I've read of this guy. What's cool about it is that the whole thing gives you false expectations. I was expecting a story about a wacky conspiracy theorist freaking out the normal people; when it actually asks us what it is to be normal? Is the "crap artist" such an abnormal figure when compared to the other characters in the book? I'm not going to spoil the ending, but suffice to say; the people who say they are 'normal' can be the most fucked up.

I thought this one was just OK. It's one of his non-sci-fi "serious" books. Poor PKD...he was like Billy Joel. All he wanted was to be taken seriously as an artist, but he couldn't get out of the sci-fi ghetto. Nobody published his serious stuff while he was alive (except for one or two late in life). In my opinion, it's because they just weren't that great. He'd be happy see that four of his novels have been published by the Library of America. Oh well.

This was a weird one. Although it has some aspects of traits that Dick's known for, it's totally out of character for his other books. It's straight fiction, and really only deals with the broken interpersonal relationships of broken people.

Oh yeah, and there's that one chapter where the voice for one of the characters is just totally wrong.

Es un libro muy complejo, me gusto mucho leerlo pero tarde un poco en envolverme en la trama del libro

A remarkable work. PKD in non science fiction mode but clearly still focusing inward to understand his own obsessions. layers and layers but then half way through you realize, maybe this isn't reliable and now you're caught up too.
