Awful. The novel started strong with a mysterious divide, but the rest of the book was a bunch of Russian Mafia and former Special Forces fighting it out, backstabbing and double crossing trying to exact revenge. Horrible, boring-don’t waste your time.

Ugh. This story was all over the place with silly story lines. It felt like the first release of an author, not one with several best selling series. The first quarter was Shelley insisting he work for the Drakes and then refusing to work for them once they agreed. Three identical jokes that Russians aren't Chechens. Patterson should give the check back to his publisher and have his name removed from the book.

Ex-SAS soldier David Shelly looks to settle down doing private contract work after a career in the Special Forces, but when a former employer's daughter mysteriously reaches out after having no contact for 14 years before committing suicide, Shelly is pulled back in to a part of his life he that he felt he morally had to leave.

Reluctantly paired with other ex-military guards, Shelly needs to fiqure out if the daughter's suicide was of her own volition, or if there's more at play and how it connects back to him; she did call him after all.

One thing I always live about James Patterson is that he always starts his books off with a bang. This isn't the most thrilling Patterson novel I've ever read, but what Patterson lacked in surprises, he made up for with non-stop action.
This is the first David Shelly novel, but I expect there will be more in the future, and I look forward to reading them all.
