Genuinely one of the most important books for mental health I have ever read; this should be required reading for every woman (and possibly every parent) upon reaching their age of majority. Brown's research is not only relatable and meaningful, she grounds it in accessible language with lots of personal narratives and continuously references a useful and simple model. Reading this book has changed my perspective on how I interact with others, more than even one of Brown's other works.

Bullying: While nothing explicitly mentions instances of bullying, many "shame incidents" described by Brown's participants border on bullying behavior. The entire idea of being shamed may be triggering to bullying survivors. Alcoholism, drug use/abuse: Many shame stories reference alcohol/drug use and abuse, including Brown's. Drug use is specifically explored in its' connection to shame, but is done in an informational and no extremely detailed way.
