This was much sadder than I expected it to be. 
Check TW/CW before reading this. 
It’s heavy on the topics of revenge in connection with grief and sexually abused children. 
It left me feeling angry and sad.

I don't know what I expected from Sadie but it was a much different book than I imagined. Crime thrillers are not really my typical genre, but this one came highly reccommended by a friend. I enjoyed Sadie herself as a character - by far, she was the best part of the book and her narration was great. I was iffy on the dual narrative structure (as half the chapters are transcripts from a podcast about Sadie and her sister, Mattie) - but I think it ultimately made the ending stronger. Wish it ended differently. I don't know. I will be thinking about it for a long time.

This book had been in my TBR for probably over a year before I decided to pick it up. I’d heard the audiobook was a good format to read it because of the podcast element. After listening to it, I wholeheartedly agree. Not only is the podcast element to the story heightened by the format, but Sadie’s stutter is portrayed amazingly by the voice actress. I decided to finally pick it up because it was available to borrow on Libby; I’m so glad I did. I’d definitely recommend this book to true-crime followers, especially those who listen to podcasts. The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars was because the beginning was a little confusing for me. That might just have been me getting used to reading audiobooks though; don’t let it discourage you.

I would say Sadie is a lot more "new adult" than "young adult", and i wouldnt for the life of me recommend it to someone younger than 16.
If you want to read this book, i ask you two things:
1- listen to the audiobook: the book has some podcasts elements to it and i cannot express how good the full cast audiobook does that stuff. It enchanced the experience  a lot.
2-please read the trigger warnings. While good, it is very graphic in some terrible, terrible topics. 
By the way, Sadie, the protagonist, has a stutter and that is never cured. It was once of the best representations for a stutter I have ever seen.
Spoilers:

I really liked how it showed that the monsters walking among us sometimes look like good people: they get people jobs, they build cities, they have families. They are still monsters. 
While i am frustrated at the open ending, it was the best way of finishing the story: it gives us a little bit of hope, even though we probably know what is the most likely thing to have happened.
