This is exactly the kind of book I like to read when I'm sitting at work with nothing better to do. A cheesy girly book with friends and romance.
The only complaint I have is about the narration - it wasn't hard to follow, just annoying at times. It would go from the main character to an outside narrator between paragraphs. It's one thing to do that between chapters, or sections of chapters, but to do it from one paragraph to the next got a little irritating. I wonder if her other books are like this?

You can tell that this book was written about 20 years ago because I don't think it would fly in today's world. This book made me kind of mad at times how it portrayed 217 lbs Jemima Jones as obese and repulsive to men, but I did find the character very relatable at time. Despite being annoyed at some parts of the book, I found it a light enjoyable read and enjoyed the way the author made it seem like there was a narrator at times during the book. I liked Jane Green's style of writing. I will definitely try others she has written.
This book, while I get doesn't help over weight women embrace themselves, it is the perfect ending that many of us want. She's the success story. The author also presents the world they way it is. It find this story inspirational.
this book is completely cliched, and mostly terrible in that the main character has to be skinny to be even vaguely happy (and she basically starves and exercises herself into oblivion to lose close to 100 pounds), but i can't help but enjoy it. it's just fluff. nothing more, nothing less.

A friend recommended this book, and am I ever glad she did. I found myself laughing out loud at the main character's witticisms and adventures, but I also was able to sympathize with many of Jemima's sad feelings and unfortunate plights. The cast of supporting characters is quite remarkable and Green's take on the ugly ducking tale is surely memorable. Jemima J is a bloody good read!
Not really worth reading unless you have nothing else to read.
