FBI Agent Emma Griffin is in a small town undercover with hopes of gaining some insight into the multiple disappearances that have been happening. Upon her arrival, she is met by a dead body of the porch of her temporary home. This makes Emma a suspect and possible a target. Will Emma be able to figure out why people are disappearing before the locals run her out of town?

This wasn't a bad read - I do intend to try some of the others in this series to see if maybe I was just in a reading slump when reading this one. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the most exciting storyline and I didn't find myself itching to read it after putting it down. Though I finished it in two days, I really had to force myself to read it. I think that maybe it was a bit drawn out for me, but I'm going to read the next in the series and give it a second chance. I loved how bad-ass Emma was; super independent and didn't take crap from anyone. I am a sucker for a strong female protagonist.

I'm not nitpicking about writing styles, but this book right away bothered me. I decided I wasn't going to focus on it and I was able to get through the book (I read it for my work book club). After I finished I realized why the book wasn't as honed as it should be: This book was the first in a series that has over 20 books in it and this was written in 2019!! How can you write an excellent book and write 7 or more a year?!!!

This was my first book by AJ Rivers and I really enjoyed it. I actually give it 4.25 ⭐️s. Great murder mystery with surprising twists. Would recommend for sure. Looking forward to reading more in this series.

It was good, but the ending began to get predictable. Still good writing and fairly haunting. I thought it wrapped up well enough for me to just leave the book at that. I may pick up the second one, but it is not really necessary even though there are tidbits of the main character's story that are left unfinished for future books.

Great story but chunky dialogue and descriptions. Little to no characterisation and the characters barely have any emotions. the dialogue is incredibly long and gets boring after a while. A little too fast paced and doesn’t make much sense at some times. My main thing is how little emotion Emma shows during many of the events in the book. Great story; poor writing.

Well I didn't see that one coming! I didn't believe it was who was being set up through the entire book, but I didn't think it would be who it was either. It's a good read and I can't wait to learn more of her backstory!!
