oh, what a masterpiece. what a stunning, emotional, heart-wrenching addition to an already magnificent series.
this book has a stronger military fiction/theme going on, which I'm not the biggest fan of, but the storyline and pacing of the military theme was so well-done, natural, and necessary, that it did not bother me at all. I was in love, biting my nails, turning page after page waiting to find out what happened next - and then my heart broke. so well done, and I'm not sure how I'm going to survive until Lotus comes out in November!

By the Nameless (and the Faceless, if you’re into that sort of thing), this book is great. An example of a sequel that is an improvement on the original. Twists that wring you dry of hope, laughter, love, ugh it’s heartbreaking and sets up a great Darkest Hour for our heroes to overcome in the third book. I really hope Suri delivers with the last installation. I am genuinely extremely worried for everyone in this book.

I love the world and the characters and their relationships. The pacing is a bit tough to get through though and personally I'd prefer less switching of the characters.

my first 5 ⭐ book of the year. the jasmine throne was already amazing but this had me positively gagged. the writing is so easily digestible but so sophisticated at the same time, and it feels effortless, too. it's incredible. malini my beloved!!!
one thing, though. i feel baited by the (stunning) cover art 😔😔😔. i really thought we were going to see malini in a full on sword fight or something ☹️
