This book is set in the fictional town of Muscadine, Georgia and the area surrounding it and follows characters from the 1950s to present day and often has subtle references to other characters who’ve appeared in previous stories in the book.

This interweaving of stories helps you better understand the impacts of events in the town such as loss of loved ones, new relationships, and crimes which take place.

This is a slow paced read that gives you a window into the characters lives’ and their moments of growth and change as they experience different events during their lives and while it’s not necessarily a new favorite for me I do think if you enjoy short stories which touch on themes of racism, classism, and growing up that you’d enjoy this book. The characters feel flawed and realistic and though we at times don’t have enough time with them due to the format of the book we do glimpse into their life a bit and learn from what we see there.
