This book is NOT a biography of Jennifer Doudna.
This is about biotechnology, gene-editing and CRISPR.( To know you have to read it).
The author has discussed ethical, moral, medical and legal aspects of gene-editing.
He has written in a very simple language to make understandable to general person.
As gene- editing starts with virus, he has cleverly added last chapter to discuss new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, and CRISPR role in vaccine and treatment.

This book was really cool. CRISPR is an insane technology. I learned a lot about how it came about and think I understand how it works a little better, now.

This book is sooooo long. Not in a bad way, but sadly not in a good way either.

When I opened the book, my expectation was that this would be a book about Jennifer Doudna, as the title suggested. However, through half of the book, the author started talking about gene editing and all the ethics around that. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed reading about people’s thoughts process around whether and what we should do using gene editing. But, I was hoping to read a biography, not a philosophical essay. After pushing myself through that part, then it was all about Covid. I mean, there is nothing wrong with including covid into the book since it plays such an important part of fighting Covid. Yet, that section of the book is more like the author’s own experience and thoughts on Covid. He puts too much of his personal opinions and emotions into this book, which I personally don’t like very much for biographies.

That’s why this is only a three star book for me. I felt like I read three books in one book

Great piece of non-fiction. It does a great job of explaining everything while doing an awesome job overviewing the entire beginning of the CRISPR revolution.
