 Welche Bücher haben euch so mitgenommen, dass ihr am liebsten ganz laut gebrüllt hättet?

Im Fokus soll heute “Das Beste sind die Augen” von Monica Kim, übersetzt von Jasmin Humburg im @kiwisphere_verlag erschienen, stehen! Dieses Buch war wirklich genial, ich hab mich ab und zu ein bisschen gegruselt, weil ich lange nichts in die Richtung Body Horror gelesen habe, aber es war es wert. Wenn ich das Buch in drei Worten beschreiben müsste, dann wäre es: good for her (und weird but okay). Weil auch wenn ich nicht Ji-won’s Drang danach verstehe, Augen zu essen, dann verstehe und sehe ich sehr wohl den Weg der dazu geführt hat. 

Ab und zu hat sich das Buch ein bisschen gezogen, aber das war vor allem der Anfang und die Mitte und das Ende haben das wieder gut gemacht! Das Buch bzw der Schreibstil ist eher simpel gehalten, also es gibt weder poetische lange Sätze noch krasse Metaphern (also schon kinda, aber die sind auch sehr offensichtlich verpackt), was ich sehr erfrischend fand.

Alles in allem also ein kleiner Erfolg und jetzt für die düstere Jahreszeit ein Muss! Ngl hab mich manchmal echt gegruselt!

I’d class this more as a thriller than a horror. Raised a lot of questions about toxic masculinity and the objectification of Asian women in America. The descriptions of eyes being eating were grotesque, which was excellent.

I tried to like this book, I really did. But theres just so much that makes it fall apart. The main characters are essentially caricatures of stereotypes that feel hard to take seriously. Not only that but the relationships feel so flat. The end is what really sealed the 2 stars for me though, the brain tumor was out of the blue and made no sense and then she magically frames Geoffrey with everything? I was really hoping for it to be better.

I quite literally never want to see a pair of blue eyes ever, such a unique read and I overall did enjoy it. The imagery was a little much for me personally
