I hate to say it, but I’m a simple gal. Give me a revenge fantasy and a murdering FMC and I’m on fucking board. I saw a one star review that said something about not being a “you go girl” kind of reader and I was forced to reckon with the fact that I am.

Gaslight your mother’s boyfriend? You go girl!
Carve out a dead man’s eyeball? You go girl!
Drug men with stolen sleeping pills? You go girl!
Lie on a dating app to trick a man? You go girl!
Commit several murders and frame a creep? You go girl!
Plan to kill your father? You go girl!

The one part of this book that gave me pause was when she had a brain tumor removed and no longer “craved” eyes the same way and I was about to be really bummed. So all along I’ve been cheering for a tumor?? Lame. Luckily, she still killed her soon-to-be stepdad, so all is right with my world. 🥰

Looking at other reviews, I can understand why people might not love this book. There’s probably some valid criticism to be made about suspension of disbelief and maybe a plot hole here or there, but I bought American Mary on DVD, so clearly I’m immune to that kind of thing.
