I really wanted to like this book, but there was not enough world building for a fantasy book. And if there isn’t going to be world building, then give me plot! Well... the book falls short here too.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I had some real issues with this book. The first fifth or so of the book was really intriguing. His time at the university was rather slow, but I still enjoyed my reading. The tone and pacing was different than the beginning. When he leaves the university after hearing of the wedding, the pacing changes again. It felt like several different books in one, and I know this is a series, but nothing was resolved. I need some resolution in a book for the investment of my time. I did enjoy what I read. I just wish it felt more like a complete story.

I loved this book. The beginning was a bit slow for me as it took some time for things to be explained, but as it went on I was hooked. Now I just have to find the second one!

I wasn’t hooked or gripped or anything. I’ve heard it has really nice descriptive writing but I haven’t felt that way yet, and I’m not sure I’d like  a long, slow book about a bunch of men that are 10 years older than me.
