Ishiguro either knocks it out of the park, or totally whiffs it. This, I’m sorry to say, was a swing and a miss.

A good first hundred pages or so though!

It’s a widely known fact that Ishiguro absolutely never misses, but I really and truly think that this is one of the best Ishiguro novels I’ve read so far. Sparkling in its brilliance, devastating, penetrating, and beautiful.

Would love to pair it with Dickens’s Great Expectations, and much to consider about childhood, memory, and nostalgia.

داستان سرگرم‌کننده‌ای بود و تنها چیزی که حین خوندن اذیتم می‌کرد پیش‌زمینه‌ای بود که هردفعه برای گفتن یکی دیگه از خاطره‌های قدیمی به‌کار می‌برد، که خیلی شبیه‌به‌هم بود و مرتباً تکرار می‌شد و حس کمبود خلاقیت می‌کردم و این یک‌نواختی به‌مذاقم خوش نمیومد. اما درکل کتاب خوش‌خوانی بود.
