I read this at my partners suggestion because he loved these books when he was a kid. I wasn't expecting them to be so dark considering he read then around age 12. Dark themes and perhaps some younger levels of writing but overall I enjoyed reading it and read it rather quickly once I fully picked it up. I think I may continue the series in chronological order (Bec is the first book according to this order)

The first time I read this was in highschool. I remember the ending being impactful, so I wanted to re-read it to see if it held up. Reading it now, I wish there was more to the it. It felt empty, lack of sustenance. I'm not exactly sure if it needs more internal/external dialogue, narration, scene setting, something. It felt rushed. I would have appreciated the author taking their time with the development of the plot and characters.
One thing I found very irritating. I understand that this book is meant for a younger audience, however, the way this book is written it's as if it were for elementary children. The readers aren't stupid. Just because you are writing for younger raders does not mean they can't handle subtlety. It's kind of insulting, honestly. I didn't mind the first 80% of the book being lackluster in detail, but the last 20% was maddening with how elementary the "plot twist" was revealed and the choppiness of the ending sequences. The final scenes of the book don't flow well, I think. It was very start stop start stop start stop and I think it would have flowed better with less "stops" if that makes sense.
Things I liked, I loved the ties to celtic culture. I liked the final image of the book, which is what stuck with me all of this time and had me itching to read it again. Like I said before, the final scenes leading up to the ending were a little rough, but the last interaction and final feeling you are left with is strong.

After a slow start for me, this book really picked up my attention towards the middle. I really like the characters in this one. The little back story of lord loss and chess is interesting as well.
Read it yourself. None of Darren Shan's books will disappoint!
Ebben a részben Anita úgy tűnik, szinte mindenre képes, még a nagyhatalmú vámpírokkal is simán szembeszáll, viszont ezen túl semmit nem fejlődik, vagyis nagyon úgy tűnik, előbb utóbb nimfomán lesz, hisz szinte csak szexuális érintkezés során képes előhívni a mágiáját.. Ami bosszantott, hogy a jól induló krimi szál, a nyomozás a végén fél oldalon derül ki, mindenféle különösebb nyomozás nélkül a tettes egyszerűen bevallja.
