If I hadn't watched and loved the anime I wouldn't have finished this book. My son loves them though, so I'll try the next and see if the writing gets any better.
I really enjoyed this light novel. If you have watched the anime I would highly recommend the light novel. I found Subaru to be less obnoxious and I understood his internal thoughts and actions a lot more which makes him more likeable.
The writing is simple to understand and builds an interesting but generic fantasy world. The book does get dark and twist the general idea of an isekai.
If you're bored with the usual isekai formula give this book a go!
