I'm not going to lie, I read this because I watched the anime. The first LN covers the first four episodes, so anyone who's watched the show will know that there isn't a substantial amount of plot here. To be fair it IS a LN, they don't tend to cover much seeing as they're only 200 pages, but I have read LNs that have substantially more plot in their 200 pages than this does, so if you're expecting a Big Bang (assuming you haven't watched the anime) you're not really gettimg it here, the story barely starts.
That aside it is a nice introduction, it does have a beginning, middle and end (though the epilogue dragged a bit). It's faster paced than the anime (perhaps because I'm a fast reader) which I find a personall benefit, because Subaru doesn't come off as obnoxiously dumb here about the whole resetting and travelling back in time thing as he does in the anime.
Speaking of Subaru, he's actually a pretty pleasant character to be inside the head of. Not the most unique, I can assure you, but he definitely has some sassy one liners and thoughts, which were pretty fun and entertaining. All the side characters were pretty great too, though sorely under developed. As is the world, and pretty much everything else.
Over all, a pleasant read, only took a few hours. Not much development in it as it isn't really a book persay, more of an introduction to one (which is why I would definitely recommend not payin full price for it, it's not worth it). If you're planning to read the whole series I would definitely read this, if you're not and only want to try it out I would direct you to other LNs (like Moribito for example)
