This book…. The twists… turns… TEARS!!! And…. That ending!!!
Unfortunate because it was some of the best depicting of depression and camaraderie /dark humor and horror of normies… but it just kept taking wild turns!
Wow okay I really really liked this book!!!
I was a little nervous about the content warning pages (plural!) but honestly? I’m really glad I read it.
It was really different from your average dark romance and the message behind the book (including the title) is stunning.
Made me feel all the feels. We love Lanston Nevers ❤️

I enjoyed this one, despite the heavy topic of mental illness being the forefront.
PLEASE CHECK TRIGGERS AS THE WHOLE BOOK RELATES TO HEAVY MENTAL ILLNESS TOPICS!
I wanted more from the mystery element of the story but I still enjoyed it regardless.

This book was good in the beginning. The things they said about mental illness, feeling alone, and wanting to die were so real and heartfelt, and it started off well. But then, towards the middle and end, it totally went downhill. It kind of shifted from a mental institution romance focused on learning about mental issues, finding love, strength, and growth within yourself & and the new people you meet who are similar to you. that regardless of individual issues you are going through & no matter how dark it is your life is still worth living , to a very confusing mix of romance, murder, and mystery. It took a weird turn.
It also felt like the characters were younger than they were supposed to be at times. The FMC is supposed to be 26, and the MMC is 29, but they talk like they’re around 18 or 19, sounding very young in their dialogue. In the beginning, it really did touch on some relatable mental illness topics, but once you hit the middle and towards the end, it lost me, especially with her relationship with Liam. It didn’t feel like they had many intimate moments. I felt the chemistry, but then Lanston comes in, and it’s like she’s trying to create a relationship with him while claiming it’s platonic, even though he says he’s in love with her & She’s all confused about her feelings for him, & then calling them soulmates and them having these deep moments together, while with Liam, all we get is sex and attitude. It was just very weird, and I felt so bad for Liam because Wyn she doesn’t understand the word boundary. She doesn’t set any boundaries between her and Lanston, and a lot of what they say feels way more intimate than just friends.
It was just really weird, especially towards the end. There were so many plot holes. A lot of things didn’t make sense, and it felt like conversations were repeated unnecessarily, like they just had that discussion, so why are we acting like it never happened? I don’t know, the book just fell apart at the end, and it made no sense how Lanston died while Liam and Wyn lived. I’m so confused. It felt like there were three different plots going on. What’s the main point of this book? She wants to die, he wants to live, so how did we end up with this plot about solving murder mysteries involving people from the institution?
update: It does say it's a dark romance thriller, so I guess that's on me for not seeing that in the synopsis

Like so devastating but I couldn’t cry bc I was worried Wynn and Liam wouldn’t end up together
2.5 ⭐️- Idk if it’s cause I literally work in a psych hospital or what.. but this book just wasn’t it for me. It was okay, having more action/drama near the end of the book. People online lead me to believe it was like gut wrenching but it just didn’t spark those emotions in me. It just has a random side character so when the end was revealed I was like yah.. kinda makes sense lol. I feel like we don’t really get back story on any of them too much, just a bit or snippets. Idk it felt lacking depth for a book that was supposed to be revolved around mental health and stability.
