I really liked how this started out and how the midsection of the plot/relationship development played out…but the ending was too rushed and felt incomplete. I love a romance where the FMC comes in as a stepmother and shows care, compassion, and attention to their new stepchildren. AND, more importantly, expresses respect for the memory of their new charge’s deceased biological parent. That aspect of the book was my favorite. Edmund was kind of a jerk though. Also, the subtle Christian x moralistic undertone of some of the MCs conversations was…vaguely eyebrow raising. Not entirely off putting, just mildly eye roll worthy.
This was my first Stacy Reid book and I’m definitely interested in others!

This was quite a fun concept, and I enjoyed a lot of the writing. There were some really solid bits in this book - some sweet bits, some sexy bits, good chemistry between Adel and Edmond. I liked how their romance developed, and how his daughters fitted into it - Adel had some really sweet and lovely moments with them.
I just thought it took a while to get going, and I think the better parts of the book were when the author delved into the angst in Edmond’s grief over his first marriage. This part could have been longer, for me.
Still, I think this was a mostly solid romance book and I’ll definitely be reading more from Stacy Reid in the future.
Content Notes: Marriage of convenience, widowed MMC.

Their first meeting was cute. It was a fun and quick read.
Trust historical romance to break my slump and they did. I adore this book. Adeline is the perfect heroine in this one. Their meet cute both hot & disaster in disguise. This book could give more grovelling from the hero but the angsty part and tension that drew me in. The dead wife trope doesn’t even matter to me in this book so overall i’m satisfied
I fell in love with Adeline and Edmond right away and enjoyed listening as their story unfolded. My only complaint was with the dumb Dark Moment.
This had a cute opening, but once they were married I grew veeeeeeery bored with the story.
The conflict revolves around the hero's PTSD from losing his wife in childbirth, and while it's a very valid fear, he was so frustrating. I just couldn't forgive him for how he treated the heroine - I needed a loooooooot more grovelling.
Their communication (or lackthereof) drove me insane.
I'd read another Stacy Reid but this was sadly not the one for me. I know a lot of people loved it, but it didn't mesh with me!

I’ve learned the widower and pregnancy tropes are not for me.
